Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa were among the clubs reportedly interested in Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has spoken highly of central midfielder Kalvin Phillips to The Yorkshire Evening Post for the way he conducted himself amid reported interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham wanted to secure the services of the 23-year-old from Championship outfit Leeds this summer.

The report also credited Newcastle, Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth with interest in the central midfielder.

Leeds managing director Kinnear has praised Phillips for remaining committed to the club and for staying at Elland Road beyond the summer.

Kinnear told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Phillips: “Kalvin has been fantastically loyal because he’s obviously had his head turned by financial offers from other clubs but he’s remained committed and wants to play in the Premier League with Leeds United. We wanted to keep all the players we thought would be central to us getting promoted.”

Leeds United stay

Phillips is one of the best central midfielders in the Championship, and the 23-year-old is a key player in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds do not have a direct and suitable replacement for the 23-year-old in their squad, and it made sense for the Whites not to cash in on the youngster, as they aim to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League.
