Mark Lawrenson thinks Leeds United won’t survive relegation from the Premier League and stated they are playing ‘angry’ football, as he told Football Focus.

Two of the biggest games of Leeds’ near future await them, as they need points to get out of the bottom three.

It starts with a home clash on Sunday afternoon against Brighton, with their relegation rivals – Everton and Burnley – playing Brentford and Tottenham, respectively.

As things stand, Jesse Marsch’s side are heading down because Everton and Burnley don’t need any more points to survive.

But a win, even a point, at home to Graham Potter’s men could turn the screw a little, although, Lawrenson thinks they are doomed.

On if Leeds will get out of the relegation zone: “No,” said Lawrenson in a blunt fashion.

“They are playing angry, at the moment. I don’t understand. They are getting players sent off every game and they have lost everything. The rhythm and all sorts.

“They can’t score. The way they are, at the moment, they have got Brighton on Sunday and they are in a good vein of form as well. I just don’t see it with Leeds.”

LEEDS NEED TO TAKE THE RELEGATION BATTLE TO THE FINAL DAY

Leeds could be in a situation where they are down and out by next Thursday – days before the final day of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

If they lose later on today, and both Burnley and Everton pick up enough points from their next two matches, including their games in hand next Thursday, then they are relegated.

Either way, it’s going to be a nerve-racking time for those in Yorkshire, who don’t want to return to those dark days in England’s lower leagues.

It took the Whites nearly two decades to get out of that hole and returning there will only re-ignite nightmares that the same will happen again.
