Leeds United have fans have hit out after top scorer Chris Wood missed out on the Championship Player of the Year Award.

Wood was on the final three shortlist, alongside Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle and eventual winner Antony Knockaert of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Wood is the Championship’s top goalscorer on 25 goals, firing Leeds into the play-off positions and defying pre-season expectations.

Knockaert has scored 13 goals from Brighton’s wing, and been instrumental in their success too as they battle it out for top spot with Newcastle United.

The Frenchman once played alongside Chris Wood at Leicester City, with both players leaving the Foxes in 2015.

Chris Wood was still named in the EFL Team of the Season, along with fellow Leeds player Pontus Jansson, but his award snub upset several fans who felt the New Zealand striker was a more deserving winner.

He has not scored in his last three games with Leeds losing two of them, which could have affected his chances of swaying the voting.

Wood still has a big part to play for Leeds this season and they will need him at his best if they are to clinch promotion to the Premier League.
