The duo played a key role in the Hammers’ win over Accrington Stanley.
West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has hailed Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet in an interview with the club’s official website.
The Hammers took on Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening looking to turn around their poor form.
It proved to be a highly frustrating evening for them as they failed to get past the League Two side until Payet scored a superb last minute free kick to seal their progression.
It was another great effort from the Frenchman, who yet again showed his importance to Slaven Bilic’s team.
And Ogbonna was keen to praise him afterwards, as well as reserving praise for fellow midfielder Lanzini.
“Every time when Dimi comes into the game he can change things,” he told the club’s official website.
“It is not just about him, but Lanzini as well. He can keep the ball. Both of them are really important for us and they showed the different level they can bring to the team.”
West Ham will now be hoping both players can continue to shine as they seek to turn their Premier League form around.
The Hammers have managed just one win from the first five Premier League games and currently sit in the bottom three after losing their last two games 4-2.
They need to turn that form around quickly to start picking up points and they will need Lanzini and Payet at their best to do so.
