The Rangers manager Steven Gerrard cut short the striker’s second Ibrox spell.

The freed Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty could return to football with one of Steven Gerrard’s side’s Scottish Premiership rivals.
Lafferty returned to Rangers on a two-year deal during last summer’s transfer window, but was allowed to leave well ahead of schedule after failing to make a positive impression in his second Ibrox spell.
A move to Hearts – the club from which Rangers re-signed him – had been mooted, but the Jambos’ boss Craig Levein has since played down the speculation.
Asked if the Northern Ireland international could join Kilmarnock instead, the East Ayrshire side’s boss Angelo Alessio said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun: “Rhe club is working every day to get new players in.
“But we have got to be realistic. Lafferty and some players earn a lot of money.”
Lafferty’s exit has left some Rangers fans craving another centre-forward, despite the bright starts made by Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos this season.

Gerrard also has the youngster Zak Rudden to call on, having sold Ryan Hardie and Andrew Dallas earlier this summer.
