Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou believes that the sky is the limit for defender Micky van de Ven.

Many were expecting Spurs to beat Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, but it became a testing game.

Eberechi Eze‘s stunning free kick put Palace in front, leaving Tottenham to come from behind once again.

This is becoming quite the trend under Ange Postecoglou, but they found a leveller through Timo Werner and really accelerated from there.

Cristian Romero put Spurs in front with Son Heung-min adding number three to secure a crucial victory in the race for Champions League football.

Ange Postecoglou hails Micky van de Ven

A number of Tottenham players impressed in this one but the battling nature of defender Micky van de Ven really caught the attention.

The Dutchman appeared to be heading off the pitch inside the first 10 minutes as he picked up what appeared to be an ankle injury.

Van de Ven instead battled on and played the full 90 minutes, helping Tottenham secure the victory.

The 22-year-old has been exceptional for Tottenham ever since his huge £43million move from Wolfsburg over the summer.

Van de Ven’s blazing speed has been a feature throughout the campaign, allowing Spurs to push higher up the pitch with his pace proving valuable to defend counter-attacks.

Spurs boss Postecoglou has now paid tribute to Van de Ven whilst speaking to Tottenham’s official website.

Postecoglou believes that there is ‘just no ceiling’ for Van de Ven, seemingly believing that he can become one of the very best in the world.

Postecoglou added that Van de Ven was ‘really important’ because of his pace, helping nullify Palace’s counter-attacking approach.

“I think Mateta was tested physically! Micky has been outstanding all year, and he’s growing all the time, we see it in training,” said Postecoglou. “The growth in him, his maturity, his physical capacity, there is just no ceiling for that guy.”

“He was important today. We didn’t have to defend deep, they were going to try to play on the counter attack and there was going to be a lot of space, and that suits him because of his speed and ability to track people down. I thought he was really important today,” he added.

We would agree here as Van de Ven has enormous potential.

The Spurs defender is still in his first Premier League season and even missed some of the campaign through injury.

With more games and more exposure to playing against some of the best attackers around, Van de Ven may well become one of the top defenders in the game – and Spurs may just receive interest in his signature.
