Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised Timo Werner after his debut performance against Manchester United on Sunday.

Tottenham made the trip up north on Sunday with Ange Postecoglou seeking another win over United.

Postecoglou got the better of Ten Hag in August but United took an early lead in Sunday’s meeting with Rasmus Hojlund firing the opener.

Richarlison nodded Tottenham level before Marcus Rashford put United back in front before the break.

Tottenham came out roaring after half-time though with Rodrigo Bentancur finding another leveller for Spurs.

Neither side could find a winner though, with the game ended in 2-2 and both teams possibly feeling a little disappointed.

The game saw Tottenham hand a debut to new signing Timo Werner.

Spurs pounced to sign Werner on loan from RB Leipzig just a few days ago, handing him a return to Premier League action.

The German didn’t exactly live up to expectations as a Chelsea player and didn’t rediscover his spark upon returning to RB Leipzig.

Tottenham have taken a chance on Werner though and handed him a starting role on the left flank against United.

Werner, rather predictably, blew hot and cold.

One promising opening in the first half ended with Werner ballooning his shot high into the United fans behind Andre Onana’s goal.

Yet Werner did pick out Bentancur to score the second Spurs equaliser, recording an assist on his debut.

Tottenham boss Postecoglou was very happy with what he saw, branding his new forward ‘outstanding’ against United.

Postecoglou noted that Werner only had two training sessions with Tottenham ahead of Sunday’s game but was very happy with his output.

“Timo had two training sessions and played 60 minutes for the club. He was outstanding,” said Postecoglou.

Werner now has almost two weeks to wait until his next Tottenham performance, giving him some time to settle in and adjust to Postecoglou’s methods.

Son Heung-min being at the Asian Cup means Werner is likely to remain on the left flank but with Dejan Kulusevski expected back from illness soon enough, Werner may find himself battling for a starting role.
