Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski has missed the clash with Manchester United due to illness.

Tottenham are facing Manchester United today but have travelled to Old Trafford without a host of key players.

Son Heung-min is off at the Asian Cup whilst Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are now at the Africa Cup of Nations.

James Maddison, Giovani Lo Celso, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon are also out, leaving Spurs with a threadbare squad once again.

Two new signings have been included in Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, but Tottenham are now missing another vital player.

Dejan Kulusevski misses Tottenham clash with illness

Tottenham fans will have seen Ange Postecoglou’s team sheet at 3:30pm today and wondered why on earth Dejan Kulusevski wasn’t involved.

The Swede has been a regular throughout the season but he wasn’t even on the bench to face United, never mind in the starting lineup.

Kulusevski has been vital in terms of playing in his usual right-wing spot, but also coming in as a number 10 when needed.

Tottenham’s midfield does appear to lack that creative force and so Kulusevski’s absence is felt.

Postecoglou has now confirmed that Kulusevski is out through illness after a bug swept through the Tottenham squad.

Postecoglou, as quoted by Football London, indicated that Kulusevski had suffered the worst of the illness compared to his teammates and is therefore out of action.

“He’s been ill the past couple of days. We had it run through the team and unfortunately he copped the worst of it so he’s forced to miss out,” said Postecoglou.

Tottenham at least have a break after today’s game at Old Trafford and don’t play again until the FA Cup clash with Manchester United on January 26th.

That gives Kulusevski plenty of time to recover and get himself back fit and firing for a clash against Pep Guardiola’s side, with Spurs fans no doubt hoping for no long-lasting effects for their £25million wide man.
