Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised Son Heung-min as ‘ideal’ for his approach to football after shining against Burnley.

Son Heung-min has been hailed by Ange Postecoglou after absolutely destroying Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Postecoglou was speaking to Football London after seeing his side in scintillating form up at Turf Moor.

Lyle Foster’s opener didn’t deter Tottenham and Postecoglou’s men turned in a simply stunning performance.

Son levelled it up before Cristian Romero put Tottenham in front before half time.

Spurs ran riot after the break with James Maddison and then two more Son goals coming within 12 minutes.

Josh Brownhill’s consolation counted for little as Tottenham ran out 5-2 winners, bouncing back from the midweek Carabao Cup defeat at Fulham.

Postecoglou was delighted with hat-trick hero Son and admitted that he is one of the reasons why Tottenham didn’t sign a direct Harry Kane replacement.

The Australian feels that Son is ‘ideal’ for the way Tottenham play, regardless of his position or the team’s system, raving about the South Korea star.

“It’s not exactly why but it’s one of the reasons,” said Postecoglou. “I’ve got a picture in my head of what I want the team to look like and I keep saying that we’re still at the beginning, we’re still building and there’s still a lot to be done. It’s about putting all the pieces together and at the same time not neglecting what’s right in front of you.”

“There are some really good footballers at this club and I think they have the ability to play in the way this team needs to set up. Sonny whether he’s playing central or wide, he’s got all the characteristics – mate he can play in any system – but the way we play he’s ideal.

Son Heung-min could stay as Tottenham striker

We’re used to seeing Son as a play winger for Tottenham; that’s pretty much the role he has played since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen for £22million back in 2015.

Yet whenever Kane was missing, Son stepped up to become the main striker for Tottenham and never let Spurs down.

Richarlison has taken to striking role so far this season but he wasn’t fully fit to face Burnley.

That meant Manor Solomon came in out wide with Son going up front, and it worked perfectly for Tottenham.

This may be something we see moving forward; Tottenham have just brought in Brennan Johnson, who could blow out wide or up top.

Son’s lethal finishing against Burnley may well tempt Postecoglou to keep him up top with Johnson adding even more speed from the flanks.
