Tottenham Hotspur are now interested in signing AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw in the upcoming January transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou could now move for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw after previous interest from Celtic.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, who claim that Thiaw is on Tottenham’s list of potential centre back signings.
Spurs saw a great partnership emerge earlier this season with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven shining together.
Yet with Romero now suspended and Van de Ven injury, Tottenham’s lack of defensive depth is becoming a real problem.
Tottenham Hotspur interested in Malick Thiaw
Reports from the Daily Mail now suggest that Tottenham are eyeing a number of defensive targets – including AC Milan ace Thiaw.
Thiaw has been an important player for Milan this season, starting 10 Premier League games and another four in the Champions League.
The German is still only 22 but has been showing huge potential over in Italy.
Formerly of Schalke, Thiaw played against in the Champions League last season and boss Stefano Pioli praised him for shackling Harry Kane over 180 minutes.
Thiaw isn’t a natural left-footer like Van de Ven but he is a physical player at 6ft 3in tall and could offer competition in Tottenham’s defence.
Celtic were interested in signing Thiaw
Tottenham’s interest in Thiaw is interesting given that Celtic were interested in signing him under Postecoglou.
CalcioMercato reported in the summer of 2022 that Celtic held talks to sign Thiaw from Schalke.
The deal would have seen defender Christopher Jullien head in the opposite direction, but Thiaw ended up signing for AC Milan instead.
Postecoglou may have kept Thiaw on his radar since that Celtic interest and could push to finally sign him in January.
Milan will surely put up some resistance given Thiaw’s potential, but Postecoglou may feel that the time is right to finally sign the German.
