Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has heaped praise on right back Pedro Porro after his performances in the opening stages of the season.
Pedro Porro has been hailed by Ange Postecoglou after making a big impact for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 on Saturday evening but that doesn’t even come close to telling the story of a bonkers game.
Curtis Jones picked up a straight red card and a Luis Diaz goal was incorrectly ruled out before Son Heung-min tapped Tottenham into the lead.
Cody Gakpo hauled Liverpool level, but Diogo Jota then picked up another red card to leave the Reds down to nine men.
Liverpool battled admirably but were left heartbroken when Joel Matip fired Pedro Porro’s cross into his own net, handing Spurs the victory.

Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham Hotspur ace Pedro Porro
The winning goal came down the Tottenham right as Porro got forward to make a big impact in the final third.
We are used to seeing Porro do his best work from an attacking perspective.
Porro has bagged three goals and four assists in a Tottenham shirt having completed a January move from Sporting.
Spurs spent big money on Porro; £44million in total as they struck a £5million loan deal before turning the move permanent for £39million.
Ange Postecoglou seems to be loving Porro’s attacking play but also his improvement from a defensive perspective.
Postecoglou told SPURSPLAY that he thinks Porro has been ‘super’ this season, especially having been benched for the opening game of the season at Brentford.
Postecoglou noted that Porro has really adapted well this season, showing off his technical and athletic abilities.
The Australian added that Porro has been working very closely with coach Matt Wells in order to improve his defensive game
“Pedro has been super,” said Postecoglou. “He didn’t start the first game but right from pre-season he’s really adapted. Obviously with our full-backs we’re asking for a different type of role to what they’re used to but I think him and Destiny have adapted really well to it.”
“They’re trying to learn, they’re trying to understand it. I think it suits him in many respects because he’s such a good footballer. Technically he’s a very good footballer and he’s also a great athlete. You could see today. We needed both he and Destiny to be at it today, along with Micky because when you see the speed they have up front with the transition we were going to need our guys to be really on it defensively.”
“That’s the area he’s working really hard at, particularly Matt Wells and the whole back four, all the defenders have been working really hard with Matty Wells just on their defensive principles and I think you’re seeing the fruits of their labour,” he added.

Porro stats v Liverpool
Whether you count Porro’s cross for the Matip own goal as an assist or not, the former Manchester City ace was excellent statistically against Liverpool.
Porro racked up three key passes, one successful dribble and one accurate cross as he showed his technical side.
The defensive impact was there too though as Porro recorded six tackles and five clearances, as well as one interception, one successful aerial duel and blocked two shots.
That’s really impressive from Porro and it looks like Postecoglou is really getting the best out of him after an up-and-down start at Tottenham earlier this year.
