Steve Nicol has shared that he is ‘not a huge fan’ of Tottenham Hotspur signing Richarlison from Everton this summer, as he told ESPN.
It’s perhaps no surprise that a Liverpool legend has seemingly been critical of Spurs signing a former Everton player, after they shelled out big bucks for his talents.
Tottenham paid Everton £60 million for the 25-year-old, who played a key role in Frank Lampard’s side avoiding relegation and maintaining their top-flight status for another season in 2021/22.

This is the first time in a long while that Daniel Levy has splashed so much cash on a player that will effectively be a back-up in north London, well to start with he will.
Nonetheless, Nicol expects Richarlison to challenge January signing, Dejan Kulusevski, for a starting spot and he expects the Sweden international to be ‘looking over his shoulder’ now.
“Spurs are the side to have looked to have taken the biggest step as far as the chasers are concerned,” said Nicol. “Up front, signing Richarlison, I am not a huge fan of Richarlison.
“But, at the same time, he makes competition for places. And Kulusevski, as good as he was, he will be looking over his shoulder at Richarlison.”

CAN RICHARLISON HIT DOUBLE FIGURES AGAIN?
From his 30 Premier League games last season, Richarlison struck ten goals for Everton, as well as supplying five assists for the relegation-threatened side.
They were impressive numbers, especially given that most of them came during the second half of the campaign as the Toffees were battling the drop.
In north London, the emphasis isn’t going to be on Richarlison to score the goals on a regular basis for Antonio Conte.
All of that pressure will be on Harry Kane’s shoulders, as well as Heung-min Son’s, but if their new South American star can hit double figures, then it would be very valuable to the club’s cause.
Plus, as the Brazil international has proved time and time again, he scores crucial goals and doesn’t just add to the numbers and he is the type of player that can cause havoc without getting on the scoresheet.
