‘Unfortunately’: Anfield legend claims Tottenham trio can ‘trouble’ Liverpool today

Steven Nicol has claimed that Tottenham trio, Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Lucas Moura can ‘trouble’ Liverpool today, as he told ESPN.

The Anfield legend stated despite the threat of Tottenham’s forward line, their ‘achilles heel’ is what is behind their goalscorers.

After weeks of postponements, Liverpool will take on Spurs in north London today and looking to make yet another mark in the Premier League title race.

It’s not yet known what state Tottenham’s team is in, both from a fitness perspective and who has tested negative for COVID.

If fit and available, then the likes of Son, Kane and Moura will be expected to start against the highest goalscorers in the league.

Whilst Nicol understands the threat of those players, he thinks Liverpool will have too much for this Spurs side.

“Yes, they have talent,” said Nicol. “Yes, they have the ability. Moura, Son and Kane can trouble any defence, including Liverpool’s.

“Unfortunately for them though, it’s what is going on behind that front three that is their achilles heel.

“With the way Liverpool are attacking anyone right now, regardless of the name on the shirt, then you can only see Liverpool creating chances and scoring goals against a Spurs defence, for me, I will be kind and I’ll say is average.

“I’m not overly worried about this game, other than the front three that are capable of doing anything at any given time.”

It seems a long time ago now, but when Spurs were last in action, two weeks ago, both Moura and Son got on the scoresheet.

For that game, Antonio Conte’s side dispatched Norwich City 3-0 on home soil to ensure that they are still unbeaten in the Premier League under their new boss.

If that continues today, then it would be some statement the Italian is sending out in Tottenham’s quest to finish in the Champions League places.

If not, then it’s understandable if they are a little rusty because there’s one thing being able to train, but it’s another thing having that match sharpness.
