Sinclair has struggled since his excellent first season at Celtic.
Andy Walker has told Sky Sports that he believes criticism of Celtic attacker Scott Sinclair was warranted despite his winning goal against Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.
The 29-year-old earned the Celtic player of the season award in his first term north of the border after scoring 25 goals in 50 games, as well as creating another 11 strikes.
In his second season, Sinclair’s form dropped off somewhat but he still managed to be involved in 35 goals – scoring 18 and creating 17. This season, though, has been a different story.
Starting only six of his 12 outings, Sinclair finally scored his first of the season in a 1-0 win over Aberdeen and former Celtic star Walker believes criticism for the ex-Man City star is more than deserved.
“I think the criticism was deserved. This is a player that is capable of so much more,” Walker said. “He was practically unplayable in his first season at Celtic and it’s been a downward spiral ever since then.
“He’s got the ability, he’s got the pace to take on players at will. Too often he just gives up that responsibility. It was good to see him get a goal. You saw what it meant to him. It was a really big win for Celtic because Aberdeen played well.
“Scott Sinclair is capable of a lot more goals and assists.”
Sinclair has two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in the summer of 2016, which is worth a huge £25,000 a week according to the Daily Star.
It remains to be seen if Sinclair will feature against RedBull Salzburg in Austria on Thursday evening, as Brendan Rodgers looks for his side to build on their win over Rosenborg last time out in Group B of the Europa League.
