Pundit Andy Walker has told Sky Sports that he feels Jamie Murphy will be the key man for Rangers when they take on Celtic at Ibrox this weekend.

The Gers have been in blistering form in 2018, winning nine out of ten games since the turn of the year in all competitions, with interim manager Graeme Murty really staking a claim to land the job permanently.

Murty has been aided by the impact of his January signings, as Russell Martin, Sean Goss, Greg Docherty, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings have all impressed since arriving at Ibrox.

All five players will expect to feature at some point in this weekend’s game against Celtic, especially as Rangers can move to within three points of their Old Firm rivals with a win.

Ahead of the game, pundit Andy Walker – a former Celtic striker – has been asked for his opinion on Rangers’ key player, and picked one of those January signings.

Walker believes that whilst Martin and Goss have been good signings, he thinks winger Murphy is going to be the key man for Rangers after a strong start to life at Ibrox following his January move from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Murphy, 28, has signed on loan until the end of the season, when his deal should be made permanent, and Walker hailed the Scot’s impact.

Walker has told Sky Sports that he feels that Murphy has the composure and creativity to be a real force, and he is also a team player and has great understanding with his teammates, meaning Celtic should be wary of him this weekend.

“Murty did very well in the January transfer window to bring in the likes of Martin, Murphy and Goss,” said Walker. “They’ve done really well and helped make Rangers a much more consistent side. I always remember Jamie Murphy as an excellent young player at Motherwell. He went down south to Sheffield United, then to Brighton. He’s done really well for Rangers.”

“He’s got a lot of composure and he’s the type of player that can score goals. He’s also very creative and very much a team player. He’s got a great understanding with those around him and that’s been the key. The players that Rangers have brought in, there’s a real understanding of what’s required to be a successful side,” he added.
