Rangers and Celtic will meet at the end of the year as the race for the Scottish Premiership title could take a twist over the festive period.
Andy Walker believes Rangers will ‘undoubtedly be serious title challengers’ if they can pick up six points from their next two matches, including beating rivals Celtic at the end of the month.
Steven Gerrard’s side are currently one point behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, with their rivals having a game in hand.
On Boxing Day, Rangers will host Neil Lennon’s Hibernian at Ibrox before their Old Firm encounter takes place in the blue half of Glasgow to round off the year.
If the Gers can pick up maximum points from those mouthwatering fixtures then they will top the table going into the two-week winter break – Rangers’ first league fixture in 2019 will be against Kilmarnock on January 23.
Former Celtic player Walker offered his thoughts on the up and coming games in the Scottish Premiership as he focused on the Old Firm duo and what impact their results can have on the title race.
“Rangers have got two home games, they are up against Hibs and then they are up against Celtic,” Walker told Sky Sports News on 25/12/2018 at 11:20 am. “If they get six points there then they are undoubtedly serious title challengers.
“But if Celtic win at Pittodrie and if they win at Ibrox. Two really difficult away games. If they come through that with six points then they’ll be in the perfect position to capitalise at the start of the new year.”
Rangers will meet Hibernian for the second time this month, with Lennon’s side holding the Glasgow club to a goalless draw in their own backyard over a week ago.
For Celtic, they will arguably face a tougher encounter against third-placed Aberdeen, with Rodgers hoping his team can secure all three points at Pittodrie.
