Scott Brown helped Celtic beat Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
Andy Walker expressed his annoyance in the sending off incident that involved Scott Brown during Celtic’s 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday.
Brown was given his marching orders by referee Bobby Madden after he went into the crowd to celebrate his side’s last-minute winner in the Scottish Premiership – a rule which Walker described as ‘ridiculous’.
Earlier on in the second half, Killie defender Kirk Broadfoot was shown a straight red for his high challenge on Brown, who would have felt hard done by for being punished for celebrating such a big goal in the race for the Premiership title.
Nonetheless, former Celtic man Walker seemingly hinted that the rule needs to be changed because it is completely understandable as to why Brown is celebrating in the manner in which he did.
“It is one of the most ridiculous rules you can get in football,” Walker told Sky Sports Football on 17/02/2019. “You can’t celebrate such a dramatic goal. Bobby Maden is just applying the laws of the game, but it is a ridiculous rule.”
That winner by Brown means that Celtic are now eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership as their rivals have to hope for a near miracle to stop the club from winning eight titles in a row.
In the game itself, as the time ticked on, Celtic grew into the game and started creating more chances for themselves as they put their foot on the pedal when Broadfoot was shown a straight red.
Then there was an almighty scramble in the penalty area before Brown saw his shot deflect off substitute Alex Bruce before going into the back of the net.
The Bhoys will now turn their attention to Europe and overturning a two-goal deficit in Valencia as they hope to progress through to the next round of the Europa League.
