Andy Walker has made a huge claim that Rangers supporters are ‘choosing to ignore’ advice to stop the alleged sectarian abuse despite calls to do so from their current and previous managers.

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke alleged that he was the victim of sectarian abuse during his side’s 5-0 defeat at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup last Wednesday.

Now, the former Chelsea coach has responded to a banner displayed by the Gers supporters during their win against Hamilton over the weekend, as he insisted that he is not the ‘sick’ one, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Speaking to the Football Centre on Sky Sports News (25/02/2019 11:25 am), former Celtic man Walker issued his thoughts on the recent problems and the banner displayed by some Rangers fans.

“Steven Gerrard has gone on record just as Walter Smith did, just ask Ally McCoist did and asked the supporters to stop it,” Walker told Sky Sports News. “The supporters are choosing to ignore that.

“I have been involved in Scottish Football long enough to know that what we spoke about the idea of strict liability and clubs taking responsibility for the behaviour of their own fans. The idea that strict liability is going to come into Scotland, that’s not going to happen. Not a chance. The clubs won’t vote for it.”

The banner in question read ‘get well soon Steve Clarke’, with the 55-year-old calling for action and education to try and eradicate the problem, as reported in the above Sky report.

It remains to seen what the authorities will do as the majority of fans will be hoping the football on the pitch does the talking because it has been an action-packed season in the Scottish Premiership.

Steven Gerrard’s side are eight points behind leaders Celtic in the table as they host 10th-placed Dundee in their Wednesday night Premiership encounter.

Rangers will be fully aware that they can ill afford to drop any points if they are to catch their Old Firm rivals, with the duo set to face off on two more occasions this term.
