Celtic beat Rangers 1-0 on Sunday in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Scottish Premier League between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park Stadium on September 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Andy Walker has told Sky Sports that he does not believe the gap between Rangers and Celtic has closed following Sunday’s Old Firm derby win for The Hoops.

Walker’s old side earned a 1-0 win, inflicting Steven Gerrard’s first defeat as Rangers manager at Parkhead thanks to Olivier Ntcham’s second-half goal that was marred with controversy.

Indeed, Ryan Jack has been vocal in his belief that he was fouled by Tom Rogic in the build up to the goal, but instead referee Willie Collum waved play on which allowed Rogic to continue with the ball before Ntcham scored.

Walker does not believe, though, that the gap is closing anytime soon between the two Glasgow giants, as he stated that he was underwhelmed with Rangers performance at Celtic Park.

“I think the scoreline flattered Rangers,” Walker said. “I thought it was a really underwhelming performance from Rangers. On the evidence of yesterday [Sunday], I don’t see the gap closing at all.

“I was really disappointed with the way Rangers played, I had expected a bit more. Did the Rangers players turn up? Did you see [Alfredo] Morelos? Did you see [Kyle] Lafferty? Did you see Rangers having a controlled period of possession?

“I don’t think you did, and that was what disappointed me having seen Rangers a few times this season, especially in Europe where their possession has been excellent.”

Alfredo Morelos of Rangers vie with Dedryck Boyata of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park Stadium on September 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The loss sees Rangers way back in seventh, subsequently their worst start to a Scottish Premiership season in 29 years with only five points from four games after draws against Aberdeen and Motherwell, and a win over St. Mirren.

Celtic, meanwhile, sit in second place with nine points from 12 – three behind Craig Levein’s Hearts who have started the season in excellent fashion despite the loss of striker Kyle Lafferty.

Rangers are next in action on September 15 when they face Dundee, while Celtic play the night before against St. Mirren.
