Andy Townsend has expressed his shock on PremierLeague.com at Gabriel’s goal for Arsenal against Graham Potter’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the London derby on Sunday.

Brazilian defender Gabriel found the back of the net for Arsenal in the 63rd minute of the Premier League game against Chelsea.

England international attacking player Bukayo Saka put in a corner.

It was not the best of deliveries, but it completely passed by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and the Chelsea defence.

The ball was going in anyway, but Gabriel made sure of it by getting the final touch.

And former Chelsea player Townsend was shocked at the goal.

Townsend said: “How on earth does that ball travel all that way? I don’t even think it’s a great corner.

“It’s a little bit flat and a little bit short of where it’s meant to go, and nobody touches it. It looks like Gabriel got the all-important touch, and they deserve it.

“They’ve been superior in a number of departments and we’ve been waiting for it. It’s a scruffy one but it doesn’t matter.”

Gabriel has been playing well for Arsenal at the back, and we have seen that he does go on the attack often and tries to score from corner kicks.

The Brazilian has developed and progressed a lot under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and is fast becoming one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

Gabriel is calm and composed on the ball and reads the game well, and he is brilliant with his challenges and tackles.
