Andy Townsend is critical of Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
Schneiderlin is one of the better players in the current Everton team, but the former Manchester United midfielder is not playing well this season.
The France international has played nine times in the Premier League and four times in the Europa League for the Toffees so far this campaign.
The former Southampton star has been on the books of Everton since January 2017 when he joined from United for an initial transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £20 million.
Former Chelsea midfielder Townsend has given his take on Schneiderlin’s performance as well as on the prospect of Sam Allardyce taking charge of Everton, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright also having his say.
Townsend said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (7pm, November 27, 2017) about Allardyce: “I will tell you what they will get with Sam. They will get a very quick and clear impression of exactly the way forward.”
The former Republic of Ireland international added about Schneiderlin: “Morgan Schneiderlin looks like he is petrified to go near the ball, want the ball, receive the ball in any sort of area.”
Arsenal legend Wright said about Allardyce: “They have got to stop conceding goals, and he is blatantly the best candidate out there right now to stop them conceding goals.”
Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks has given his take on Everton interim manager David Unsworth’s decision to leave Wayne Rooney out of the starting lineup against Southampton in the Premier League match last weekend.
Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “To see Wayne Rooney remain on the bench while Everton were being put to the sword in this way seemed bizarre.”
