Mirra Andreeva brought Maja Chwalinska’s incredible French Open run to an end, beating her in straight sets in the final.
Andreeva won the title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, capping off a tournament where she looked strong from start to finish.
Chwalinska was hoping to become only the second qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam title, following in the footsteps of Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open breakthrough.
The Polish player had only dropped one set on her way to the final, but couldn’t overcome Andreeva, who captured her first major title at just 19 years old.
Despite falling short in the final, Chwalinska made an impressive run through Paris. Andy Roddick said he is especially eager to watch how her game translates to grass courts.

Andy Roddick shares thoughts on Maja Chwalinska’s Roland Garros performance
Roddick, speaking on an episode of ‘Served‘, had this to say about Chwalinska: “I can’t wait to see her on grass because there is something that we are all missing.
“Right now, you see the way she varies speed, and you go, that is made for a clay court or a slower, high-bouncing court.
“Now, I can’t wait to see her on something faster that shoots through the court, where she is not getting the benefit of time and seeing how it translates.
“I don’t think it’s as natural a transition, but I can’t wait to watch it. It’s almost like she had this amazing event.
“But she is going to get on-the-job training now, while being ranked 21 in the world and being a Grand Slam finalist.”
Looking back at Chwalinska’s only previous trip to Wimbledon
Before her breakthrough at the 2026 French Open, Chwalinska had just one main-draw win to her name across all Grand Slams.
That came at Wimbledon in 2022, where she fought through qualifying to make her major debut.
In the first round, she pulled off a straight-sets win over 10-time Grand Slam doubles champion Katerina Siniakova. She then fell in the second round to Alison Riske-Amritraj, losing to the American.
Chwalinska has tried twice since then to qualify for Wimbledon but hasn’t made it back into the main draw. If she can hold onto her new ranking of world No. 21, she’ll be seeded for this year’s tournament.
