The Liverpool centre-back is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in world football.

Andrew Robertson of Liverpool is seen during the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on May 26, 2018 in Kiev, Ukraine.

Liverpool ace Andy Robertson raved about the quality of his teammate Virgil van Dijk, when speaking to reporters, suggesting that the Dutchman should be crowned Player of the Year this season, as quoted by Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds from Southampton in January 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £75 million, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of Europe’s best central defenders.

Van Dijk oozes class, and his performances this season have formed the cornerstone behind Liverpool’s rise to the top of the Premier League table.

The Merseyside outfit have not won the top flight crown since 1990, and they will be desperate to end that barren run this season.

Robertson highlighted just how important the Holland international is to Liverpool, when speaking to reporters, suggesting that the defender can still reach a whole new level, as quoted by Sky Sports:

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool during the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge on September 29, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

“If the season ended tonight, I would give him it personally. There’s still 10 games to go and somebody can step up from another team but Virgil can take it to a whole new level, I reckon. The attacking players are usually in the running because they take all the goals and the headlines but this season Virgil has been fantastic and he’s getting all the plaudits that he deserves.”

Liverpool currently sit one point clear at the top of the Premier League table, and if they are to win the title this season, Van Dijk will have to be at his imperious best between now and the end of the season.
