Andy Mitten has addressed how Manchester United are viewing Benjamin Sesko’s future now that Michael Carrick has taken over as interim head coach.
The English head coach has shifted away from Ruben Amorim’s style, and the change in approach means Sesko now has to earn his way back into the starting side.
The 22-year-old has started all three of Carrick’s first games on the bench, with Bryan Mbeumo preferred to lead the line for United.
Mbeumo has settled into the role well, forming a good partnership with Bruno Fernandes, who is now playing behind him as the No. 10.
Sesko did not play in last month’s 2-0 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford but did get short spells off the bench against Arsenal and Fulham.
What Andy Mitten has reported about Benjamin Sesko’s standing at Manchester United under Michael Carrick

Sesko got just a few minutes off the bench during United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal before making a more noticeable contribution against Fulham.
The Slovenian forward came on in the second half of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, taking the place of Matheus Cunha.
He then made a decisive impact, scoring a late winner to secure all three points for Carrick’s side.
Speaking on The Athletic FC’s Talk of the Devils podcast, Andy Mitten, editor of United We Stand, made it clear that the club still think highly of Sesko and him as an important part of their future plans.
He said: “In terms of how I feel. I see a long-term player for Manchester United. And I know within the club they think that he has got potential to be an absolute top, top striker.”

Mbeumo has found the net twice in three matches since returning from international duty with Cameroon at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mitten believes Carrick’s preference for the 26-year-old over Sesko comes down to his need for immediate results.
“Michael Carrick has gone with the sensible in his mind option of starting Bryan Mbeumo at the top.
“Because he needs results. And I get why he’s done that.
“But it’s really good to have someone like Sesko with his qualities to be able to come off the bench,” Mitten concluded.
Since his high-profile transfer from RB Leipzig last August, Sesko has scored six goals in 21 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.
