Alfredo Morelos started for Rangers during their win against St Johnstone.
Andy Walker has claimed that Rangers would be ‘absolutely nowhere’ without Alfredo Morelos after the striker netted a brace during his side’s 2-1 win at St Johnstone on Sunday.
Sky Sports pundit Walker believes Rangers’ lack of goalscoring options will be a ‘big concern’ for manager Steven Gerrard.
Over the course of the campaign, Gerrard’s side have netted 41 league goals from 18 matches, with Morelos being responsible for 11 of those strikes.
The 22-year-old’s goals over the weekend ensured Rangers remained within one point of leaders Celtic, who have a game in hand heading into the festive period.
Former Celtic man Walker urged Morelos’ teammates to step up to the mark and help the youngster in finding the back of the net.
“Thankfully, Rangers have Alfredo Morelos, if they didn’t have him they would be absolutely nowhere,” Andy Walker told Sky Sports News on 24/12/2018 at 11:20 am. “
“Time and time again, he gets them out of a hole. The big concern for Steven Gerrard is surely other players must step up to the mark and take a bit of pressure off him. Start having a goalscoring threat from midfield.”
Before Scottish football enters its winter break, there are two big games coming up for Rangers; results which can have a big say on the title race.
The Gers will host Neil Lennon’s Hibernian on Boxing Day before they meet Old Firm rivals Celtic three days later at Ibrox.
A defeat in both of those fixtures could potentially end Rangers’ title hopes, but maximum points could see Gerrard’s men top the table heading into the new year.
