Sheffield Wednesday were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town last night.

Andy Hinchcliffe has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Sheffield Wednesday’s play off match against Huddersfield Town, that Carlos Carvalhal made a mistake taking off Steven Fletcher last night.
Fletcher scored Wednesday’s goal, but was replaced soon after, with Jordan Rhodes coming on.
Rhodes’ introduction appeared to halt the Owls’ momentum, with Huddersfield Town going on to have the better of the contest.

And the Terriers got their reward, when they struck a late equaliser to take the tie to extra time.
In the end, the two teams had to be separated by a penalty shoot out – with Huddersfield going through.
But Hinchcliffe feels that the story may have been different, had Wednesday not taken Rhodes off.

“What really surprised me is why they took of Fletcher and brought on Rhodes,” Hinchcliffe said. “I don’t think that helped them, chasing the centre-forward. They should have sent on [Sam] Winnall.”
Rhodes has faced criticism for his performance in the play offs, especially as he failed to step up to take a spot kick.
Wednesday’s failure to win promotion has left Carvalhal’s future at Hillsborough in doubt.
