Aston Villa parted ways with Roberto Di Matteo last week.

Andy Hinchcliffe has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 11th October, that Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo was always likely to be under pressure, after spending so much money over the summer.
Villa invested heavily in their squad in the previous transfer window – with the likes of Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia arriving for big fees.
However, despite their sizeable expenditure, Villa’s form was poor over the initial part of the season.

The Claret and Blues won just one of their first 11 matches under Di Matteo’s stewardship, and even though the Italian’s dismissal was swift, Hinchcliffe does not feel that the former Chelsea boss could have too many complaints.
“You look at the players they signed, and they have spent a lot of money,” Hinchcliffe said. “McCormack and Kodjia came in. Di Matteo was given money to spend and the results weren’t coming.

“Villa are under more pressure than anybody to get back in the Premier League.”
Villa went into the season as one of the favourites to be promoted, but they have badly disappointed so far.
The Midlands side are already playing catch up in the race for a top six spot, as they are 10 points behind the play off places.
As things stand Steve Bruce is the odds-on favourite to become Villa’s next manager.
