Andy Hinchcliffe suggested on Sky Sports Football last Friday evening (7:13pm, March 1, 2019) that he is not convinced that Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford can be a major success in the absence of Kemar Roofe.

Roofe is on the sidelines at the moment due to injury, and in the absence of the striker, Bamford has been leading the line for Leeds.

The former Nottingham Forest forward has been doing well for the Whites in recent weeks, as the 25-year-old scored two goals in their 4-0 hammering of West Bromwich Albion at Elland Road in the Championship last Friday evening.

Bamford – who joined Leeds from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018 – has made five starts and seven substitute appearances in the Championship for the Whites so far this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

Former Sheffield Wednesday left-back Hinchcliffe has admitted that he was surprised to see Leeds sign Bamford – who had had injury issues this season – in the summer of 2018 due to his style of play.

The Sky Sports pundit has also suggested that he is not convinced that the former Chelsea prospect can lead the pressing for Leeds like Roofe does.

Hinchcliffe said about Bamford on Sky Sports Football last Friday evening (7:13pm, March 1, 2019): “Patrick Bamford, down the years I have watched him play for a lot of different clubs, and technically he is a wonderful player. He is capable of scoring great goals, but when he joined Leeds and Bielsa, the style of football, the high pressing style of football, to me, didn’t seem to suit, the type of player that Patrick Bamford is.

“But with Roofe out, who has been a huge success at Leeds with how he presses defenders and the goals that he scores, Bamford is in now, so he has to take chances, he has to work defenders and lead the press.

“And I am not completely convinced that he has got the physical fitness to maybe carry out that job. He has had a lot of injuries this season. Naturally he is not that type of hard-working player, but that’s exactly what Bielsa needs from him now.”
