Andy Halliday suggests the only negative so far under Warburton at Rangers

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has called on the side not to be so wasteful.

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has singled out the only negative he’s noticed in the club’s play since Mark Warburton took over as manager, as he spoke to the Glasgow Evening Times.

Rangers have put in some fine performances under Warburton already, but the side will face tougher tests throughout the domestic league season.

It’s difficult to see where the Gers could improve under Warburton, who has made a good start to life at Ibrox with the team playing good football, but Halliday has argued there is one element of the team’s play which needs to be better.

“Everyone has taken to it like a duck to water and the quality in training has got better and better, and we are replicating that in games,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“The only negative is the chances we need to put away because when we start the league, we need to take our chances.”

Rangers can’t rely on fortune

In the majority of games Rangers play, they can afford to be a little wasteful because they will have superior quality compared to their opposition.

In those games, they know they are going to get a high ratio of chances and the opportunity to be creative.

However, they can’t rely on a little bit of luck and the midfielder creating chance after chance, because sooner or later there will be a match that ends with a negative result, leaving the club and players frustrated.

If Rangers can slowly refine their attacking play and be deadly with their finishing, they could pile up some very big wins, which will send out a bigger message than a narrow victory where a dozen good chances have been missed.
