The Rangers fan has not always been popular at Ibrox, but he always puts in his best for the club.

Rangers kept up their chase of Celtic in the Scottish title race last night with a sumptuous victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Rangers played some excellent football throughout the game and were fully deserving of their 4-1 triumph – as they moved six points behind Celtic in the table.

There was one name of the Rangers team-sheet last night that did catch the eye.

Andy Halliday was starting his first game for the club since being recalled from a loan spell at Azeri side Gabala in January.

He had been axed by Pedro Caixinha at Rangers and went on to have a miserable stint in Azerbaijan.

But with Rangers having some injury troubles he was recalled to back up the midfield options. Last night he provided cover in a different position. He played at left-back, a position he has occupied before, in the absence of both Declan John and Lee Wallace.

His performance did not meet with rave reviews from Rangers fans online, many of whom have always had some stick for a player they feel is limited.

But he did a good enough job last night and deserves some credit for his devotion to the Rangers cause.

He has come back to Ibrox with the aim of doing a job when called upon, no matter what that is for Graeme Murty’s men.

Last night he did just that and played a part in an excellent Rangers performance.

If called upon again, you can guarantee Halliday will give his all for Rangers.
