Andy Halliday has told Clyde SuperScoreBoard that Rangers star Ryan Kent “flatters to deceive” at times and did so in the League Cup final against Celtic on Sunday – but ordered the Ibrox board to keep the winger and offer a new deal.
Kent, 26, has endured a difficult season in terms of numbers. While he continues to make things happen, the winger has clocked up just 11 goal involvements in 37 games this season. Only three goals and eight assists for the Gers.
His contract is up at the end of the season and a decision is yet to be made on the future of the ex-Liverpool ace. After 211 games for Rangers, a Scottish Premiership title and a Scottish Cup, Kent and Rangers have a decision to make.
Kent’s poor form this season may actually help Rangers make a decision. Hearts midfielder Halliday had some criticism for his display on Sunday, claiming he flatters to deceive – but thinks Kent’s £18k-a-week deal should be extended.
“I’ve been Ryan Kent’s biggest defender because I’ve played with him and I know how good he. But there’s been games recently when he’s flattered to deceive. Sunday was another case of that. But I’d definitely keep Kent.”

Kent’s form should be a concern for Rangers. While he still has the ability to get Rangers up the pitch, take full-backs on and on plenty of occasions, he is the one supplying the pass before an assist – his lack of numbers are a worry.
Last season, Kent produced 19 assists and three goals in 46 games. This season, three goals again – which was poor in itself last season – and then only eight assists in nine games left. It is not enough from a player considered crucial.
