Andy Halliday has told Open Goal that Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon should be in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season ahead of Celtic man Joe Hart. Gordon left Celtic in 2020, and has been replaced by Hart.

Gordon, who turns 40 in December, rejoined Hearts after previously clocking up 176 appearances for the Tyneside club in his first spell. Then, 13 years after leaving Hearts, he rejoined the club – leaving Celtic in 2020.

He has since enjoyed promotion back to the Premiership and despite his age, has continued to prove a consistent and reliable member of the Hearts side. This season, he has kept 19 clean sheets in 41 games, conceding 37.

Gordon has even returned to the Scotland fold, playing in eight of Scotland’s 10 World Cup qualification games. Halliday thinks he should be in the TOTS ahead of Hart, despite the latter’s superb first season in Scottish football.

“I’m really looking forward to when we have a team of the year debate, at the end of the year. I don’t want Hearts to be disrespected. Do you know what, I’m calling it. Craig Gordon has to be in team of the year.

“Joe Hart has been brilliant, most clean sheets, whatever, Craig Gordon has to be in. 100%,” Halliday told Open Goal, despite there being five league games still to play in the Scottish Premiership campaign. Hearts sit third.

Halliday on Gordon: Should Hearts star go ahead of Celtic man Hart?

Hart, 35, joined Celtic from Tottenham last summer and has since clocked up 49 appearances this season – keeping 24 clean sheets, conceding 44. He has been superb for Celtic, becoming an instant leader at Parkhead.

Signing a £15k-a-week deal (Romano), he has been crucial to what is likely to be a title. It might be that if Celtic do win the title, Hart is in the Team of the Season. But if Hearts get third, that is just as good an achievement.
