Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have a gem in Alfredo Morelos.
Andy Halliday has claimed to The Scottish Sun that Rangers team-mate Alfredo Morelos is the best player in Scotland – even if he is a ‘nutjob’.
Morelos has netted 26 goals in 35 games across all competitions for Rangers this season.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard seems to have taken the Colombian’s game to a new level entirely, in his second year at Ibrox.
The 22-year-old, who has seven goals in his last four games for the light Blues, is leading the way for the Premiership’s Golden Boot on 16, two ahead of Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove.
Morelos, who has picked up four red cards this season, has missed quite a few games through suspension, but Halliday is certain that he deserves a place in his all-time XI of past and present team-mates.
He told The Scottish Sun: “Alfredo’s in there for his performances this season – it’s as simple as that. I’ve played with top strikers but I don’t think anyone that I’ve played with has been on the form that Alfredo has been in this year.
“I think he’s been the best player in the league hands down. He’s scored a lot of league goals but again I think his performances in Europe were exceptional.
“It’s not easy to lead the line himself but it’s a lot more difficult in Europe against higher class opposition. For somebody his size, he just continues to bully defenders. Nut job, there is a few nut jobs in my team actually! But Alfredo, he’s a good lad and he’s in.”
If Morelos can keep himself in check then it could yet be an even better season for Rangers.
It’s already been a very promising first year under Gerrard, who qualified his side for the Europa League proper, but the 37-year-old will be desperate to bookend his first season with a trophy and the Scottish Cup seems the most likely way of achieving that.
And with someone of Morelos’s quality leading the line, it’s very possible.
