Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers thumped the Championship outfit recently.

Andy Halliday has told Rangers’ official website he was ‘very disappointed’ that Josh Windass could not participate in Tuesday night’s mauling of Queen of the South.

Rangers eased into the semi-final of the League Cup by smashing the Championship outfit 5-0 at Ibrox last night.

Jason Holt’s strike was the difference between both sides following a one-sided first half, but goals from Halliday, coupled with a hat-trick from Martyn Waghorn, after the break saw the Gers advance comfortably.

It was just what Rangers and Mark Warburton needed following a turbulent last 10 days or so, in which the Glasgow side were thumpd 5-1 by Celtic and Joey Barton was suspended for three weeks for a training-ground row with Halliday.

But one disappointment for Warburton came in the form of Windass, who was withdrawn from last night’s lineup with a tight hamstring.

The former Accrington Stanley midfielder was starting to come into his own and Halliday admits it’s a big disappointment that he was not present in the win.

“It was very disappointing first and foremost because I think Josh has been a very exciting player for us,” he told Rangers’ website.

“He’s still a young boy and the way he handled his debut against Celtic, albeit it was a very disappointing performance from ourselves, I thought he was excellent in that game and he carried that on to last week.

“So it is very disappointing to lose him and hopefully it’s not for too long.”
