Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is clearly a very fine manager, but he definitely failed to get the most out of striker Umar Sadiq.

Gerrard has just helped Rangers to a first Scottish Premiership title for 10 years and in doing so, has forever written himself into history at Ibrox.

When you consider the fact that the Gers are also 20 points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic at the moment, that’s another indication that Gerrard knows what he is doing.

But he didn’t know how to manage Sadiq, evidently.

The 24-year-old striker joined Rangers on a season-long loan from Roma in 2018 but managed only 13 minutes of Premiership football under the 40-year-old, in what was his first year as a senior manager.

Gerrard terminated the loan months later but fast forward two-and–a-bit years, Sadiq is being courted by none other than Bayern Munich.

According to AS in Spain, the German giants are interested in activating his £52 million release clause from Almeria after scoring 17 times in 32 games for the Spanish second division outfit.

Andy Halliday was at Rangers at the same time as Sadiq, and the Scottish midfielder has admitted that he is blown away by these transfer reports, based on how poor he looked in training.

He said to Clyde Superscoreboard: “If you told me he was going to go for €60m I’d have said, ‘Come on now, stop trash talking me’. He wasn’t a good player in training but I’ve played with hundreds of strikers specifically who are not good trainers and they just come alive when it comes to a game.”
