Tottenham Hotspur were involved in a VAR controversy this afternoon.
Andy Gray has slammed the controversial VAR decision which denied Sheffield United a goal during this afternoon’s 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blades thought they had equalised immediately after Son Heung-min’s 58th-minute opener but a check from the Video Assistant Referee saw David McGoldrick’s goal ruled out for offside.
Tottenham later conceded a legitimate goal through George Baldock who salvaged a 1-1 draw for the visitors but the result has been overshadowed by what Gray has labelled a ‘ridiculous decision’.
Analying whether John Lundstram’s toe was offside took close to four minutes and the BeIN Sport analyst isn’t happy.
He said: “People will say if he’s offside then he’s offside, but no I’m sorry. There’s so many different things. You’ve got a bit of the knee past the line and a bit of a toe. Now you tell me is that offside or not? It’s ridiculousl. Absolutely ridiculous. I give up. I’m losing the will to live.”
It is getting tedious to be talking about a VAR controversy almost every single week in the Premier League, especially when recently it’s been proven that it isn’t 100 percent accurate.
It saved Tottenham on this occasion, but fans of the North London club have been left furious with it recently and overall it might be more hassle than it’s worth.
This incident, in particular, has upset a lot of pundits on social media – including Gary Lineker – and no doubt there’ll be added pressure on the officials.
