Andy Gray has praised Rangers star James Tavernier, telling BeIN Sports has been “unbelievable” this term, rising under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. He could captain his side to the Europa League trophy on Wednesday night.
Tavernier’s stats are simply incredible. A right-back, that has scored 18 goals and laid on 17 assists this season. Tavernier will win the Europa League’s golden boot, unless Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada scored a brace.
His seven goals and two assists in the Europa League have been the driving force in the Gers’ run to the final. All seven have come in the knockout stages, three over two legs against Dortmund and a brace against Braga.
A sensational campaign, even with Celtic pipping Rangers to the league. Ex-Rangers striker Gray gave his verdict to BeIN Sports, claiming that Tavernier’s form was “iffy” but has improved under van Bronckhorst.
“He’s amazing. Great captain. How can a right-back be top scorer of a European competition? Unbelievable achievement. Brilliant season. Needed to have it; his form was a bit iffy. He’s risen under van Bronckhorst.”
Gray praises Rangers star Tavernier: Can Gers win Europa League?
Rangers have a brilliant chance to win the trophy – and right the wrongs of 2008. It is a huge, huge chance. If Rangers can play as they did against Dortmund in the Westfalenstadion, they have every chance of winning.
Tavernier needs to be at his best, Ryan Kent needs to be at his best and Fashion Sakala has to produce a performance that makes Rangers fans forget Alfredo Morelos is injured. It could be a massive night, for Rangers.
