As quoted in The Daily Record, Lennon recently said that if he went two years without winning a major trophy at Celtic like Gerrard has at Rangers, then he would not be in his job.
Former Rangers striker Gray has given his take on the Celtic manager’s remarks.
Gray said on The Keys and Gray Show regarding Lennon’s comments: “He is being naughty, Neil.”
Gray added: “If Neil Lennon went two years at Celtic without the success they have had in Rangers’ absence, most of it, I think if Neil went two years without winning anything, then he would be in trouble.”
Next season will be huge
Celtic won the Scottish Premiership title this season on a points-per-game basis, meaning that they have now clinched the league for nine years in a row.
The Hoops will be favourites to make it 10 in a row next season, and it is up to their bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers to stop them.
Celtic have the strongest team in Scotland, and Rangers will have to strengthen their side in the summer transfer window and have to maintain consistency in their performanced next season.
Meanwhile, former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons has said that Mikael Lustig’s recent comments will motivate Rangers next season.
The former Celtic right-back said on BT Sport 1 (9:45pm, May 23, 2020) that if Rangers do not win the league title next season, then they will be remembered as “the worst team ever”.
Commons told The Scottish Daily Mail (print edition, page 79, May 26, 2020): ”Mikael Lustig is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is one of those players who came from abroad and just gets the banter in the UK.
“But when I saw his comments, I thought: ‘I see what you are saying but Steven Gerrard will be pinning that up in the dressing room on the first day of pre-season training for motivation’.”
