Sadio Mane snubbed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after last night’s 4-2 win at Old Trafford.
With six goals and a chalked-off penalty following a VAR decision, there were plenty of talking points from Liverpool’s victory away to Manchester United.
But a ‘little incident’ between Mane and the Liverpool manager at full time has been getting a lot of attention.
The former Southampton winger, who only came on with 16 minutes to go, snubbed a fist bump from Klopp after the game.
The Reds boss acknowledged to media afterwards that Mane was very unhappy over being left out of the first XI, and the player himself didn’t call any attention to the gesture on Instagram afterwards, simply posting: “Big 3 points.”
And Andy Gray, speaking to BeIN Sport, admitted that he originally thought it was one of the United players or staff that irked Mane.
He said: “I saw it. I didn’t see the end of it. It’s a little incident at the end of the match. I thought it was a United player or maybe one of the staff but I was wrong. I said at the beginning Mane would not have been happy being sat on that bench tonight – no way.”
Klopp didn’t seem overly concerned about Mane’s reaction while speaking to press afterwards.
You can understand the player’s frustration because it’s been a frustrating season for the Liverpool attacker.
He has been a massive star for Klopp since joining the Anfield club in 2016 but 14 goals in 45 games across all competitions this season illustrates his struggles.
Besides, the German manager fielded one of Diogo Jota or Roberto Firmino ahead of Mane and they wound up scoring three goals between them, so you have to say that Klopp got it bang-on.
