Spurs are expected to move into their new ground soon.
Andy Gray has said on BeIN Sports that he does not understand why Tottenham Hotspur would want to relocate to their new stadium in the middle of the season.
Spurs are expected to move into their new stadium next month, after delays forced the north Londoners to alter their original move-in date at the start of the season until now.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in excellent form, sitting in second in the Premier League and in the last 16 of the Champions League, where they face Borussia Dortmund. They are also in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Gray believes that remaining at Wembley until the end of the season makes sense after playing at the ground for the last season and a half, with the club performing well at the home of English football.
“If I was at Tottenham now, I would make a decision. I’d want to stay at Wembley for the rest of the season,” Gray said. “You’re in the knockout stages of the Champions League, second in the Premier League. They’ve been there 18 months.
“Why would you want to go to a brand new stadium in the middle of the season, when you’re still in the knockout stages of the Champions League and you’re in with a chance of winning the league. Doesn’t make sense to me.”
Spurs earned a comfortable 3-0 win over Cardiff City last time out thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min, pushing them into second place above Manchester City.
After the match, Cardiff boss Neil Warnock echoed Gray’s claim as quoted by the BBC, stating the Premier League should “enforce they play at Wembley for the rest of the season.”
They face Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round on Friday evening, before playing host to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in the first leg next week.
