Andy Gray has told BeIN Sports that Tottenham Hotspur fans should be living in fear at the moment over the future of Mauricio Pochettino – and not just because Manchester United are looking for a new manager.

Jose Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday morning after suffering a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool over the weekend. The Portuguese boss leaves United in a lowly sixth place in the Premier League.

United are looking to appoint a manager until the end of the season, with Michael Carrick in temporary charge. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Laurent Blanc have been mentioned. In the summer, a full-time option will be appointed.

Pochettino is a major contender along with Zinedine Zidane and others. Outspoken pundit Gray believes Spurs fans should be worried as it will not only be United after Pochettino, but also Real Madrid.

“You ask any Spurs fan, they would ask you, why would he leave to go to Manchester United?” Gray said. “Who is the best team, right now? Spurs. Who has the best youth policy right now? Probably Spurs.

“Who has the best ground? Well, when Spurs eventually get into their new ground, maybe them. But who is one of the two biggest clubs in world football? Manchester United. That’s the problem.

“Real Madrid are also looking for a coach, and I fear for Spurs fans. That is because I don’t think Spurs have to fight off just Manchester United, I think they have to fight off Real Madrid as well.

“Those two giant clubs will be tempting for any manager, no matter where he is.”

Pochettino’s reputation as a manager has only continued to improve, as he guides Spurs to their best ever Premier League campaign so far after 17 games – 13 of which they have won. They have also qualified for the Champions League’s last 16.

A trophy still evades the Argentine boss, but he could inch a step closer to ending that by beating Arsenal in the quarter final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The former Espanyol and Southampton manager has a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2023.
