Aston Villa are set to appoint Steve Bruce later today.
Andy Gray has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on 12th October, that he believes Steve Bruce will be a good appointment for Aston Villa.
Bruce is expected to be announced as Villa boss later today, after holding a series of interviews with the Midlands club in recent days.
Bruce has been out of work since leaving Hull City last summer, but he has taken the opportunity to take charge of Villa.
And Gray believes that the former Manchester United player will do a good job with the claret and blues.
“You can never be sure someone will succeed. I thought Di Matteo was a good signing, but it didn’t work,” Gray said, when asked when whether Bruce would be a good appointment for Villa.
“However, if you said to me would I like Bruce there? 100% I would. Has he got the credentials and drive? Yes, he has. It will be a fantastic job for him, and I think he’d make a success of it.”
Bruce knows exactly what it takes to get a team promoted from the Championship, having guided Hull to two promotions from this level.
The 55-year-old faces an uphill challenge if he is to get Villa back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Villa have won just once this season, and currently sit in 19th place in the Championship table.
Bruce is set to take charge of his first Villa game this weekend, when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
