Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson netted a brace against Everton on Sunday.
Andy Gray is adamant that Everton still have the power to sign players such as Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and Watford hitman Troy Deeney – as he suggested that the former is the type of player they need.
The Sun claimed in May that Everton were keen on the services of Wilson and they were planning a big-money move for him – something which, unsurprisingly, didn’t materialise.
Over the weekend, Wilson put a struggling Marco Silva side to the sword when he netted a brace against the Toffees, who once again looked poor on the road.
Speaking to Bein Sports, former Scotland striker Gray stated that Everton need a player like Wilson in their team, but he thinks that foreign coaches prefer the foreign player.
“Could you get Deeney out of Watford?” Gray questioned on Bein Sports. “He seems part and parcel of the fabric there. Callum Wilson, I agree [would suit Everton]. But the boy may be happy playing where he is playing. But you can test that resolve.
On whether Everton can attract players from Bournemouth or Watford: “The Everton I know did and this one should. But it doesn’t go cap in and that you can. But maybe the foreign coaches likes a foreign player.
“Everton have played three away games – against Crystal Palace, Villa and Bournemouth. Now that’s not the who’s who of the Premier League. [Yet] they have taken one point and scored one goal. And that’s alarming.”
In the summer, Everton opted to sign Juventus’s highly-rated youngster Moise Kean instead, as he is still settling down to life on Merseyside.
In that game at Dean Court, Silva opted to start Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead, with Kean coming off the bench and struggling to change the outcome of the game for his team.
Everton’s biggest problem this season has been their lack of bite in the final third, and their lack of goals on the road, which at this moment in time, is proving to be costly.
