Everton’s poor away form continued when they were beaten by Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

Andy Gray has stated that Moise Kean is a ‘genuine talent’ after the Everton striker was criticised by Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness.

Kean has previously stated that he won’t ‘waste his energy’ in paying any attention to Souness’ unproved attacks on the Everton man, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

In recent times, Souness has questioned what Kean has been doing off the field despite not realising that the kid is only 19-years-old and he hasn’t done anything that should be criticised.

Former Everton striker Gray shared his thoughts on Souness’ comments, on what he thinks of Kean as a player, as he seemingly backed his fellow Scotsman following his comments.

“There’s absolutely no doubt that Graeme [Souness] wouldn’t have been speaking without knowledge,” Gray told Bein Sports. “He’s got huge contacts in Italy. We know that. So, there’s every chance he was talking from an informed place.

“But what I can say is I have been 19. I’ve been at a big club at 19 and doing goods things. I know that the difficulties are even bigger now. But if there is a doubt, I hope the club he is at, the players that are around him and the coaches that are looking after him, will be able to, if there is a chance, and I hope there’s not, if there is any thought that he might go down the wrong road then I’d like to think Everton can direct him down the right road.

“And with it get the benefit of a talent, albeit an unfulfilled yet, but a genuine talent and I hope that’s the case. But at 19, I am not hugely worried that he might not be the finished article yet or he might still be a boy, which he is.”

Kean is still learning his trade following his move from Juventus in the summer. He was never questioned in Italy, but it seems as though he is now being the target of unnecessary criticism.

The highly-rated talent will be hoping his football does the talking, but his team will need to prove their worth first because they suffered a damaging 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday.

Kean came off the bench during that game, but he wasn’t able to pick up any points for his team, whose poor away form continues.
