Andy Firth comments on Rangers v Celtic atmosphere

Rangers goalkeeper Andy Firth was impressed with the atmosphere between Steven Gerrard’s Gers and Celtic at Ibrox.

Rangers goalkeeper Andy Firth has spoken highly of the atmosphere at the Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic on Blood Red: The Liverpool FC Podcast.

The Rangers goalkeeper was impressed with the atmosphere at Ibrox during Rangers’ 2-0 win against bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The former Liverpool prospect was on the substitutes’ bench for the game, as James Tavernier and Scott Arfield scored the goals for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Firth, 22, has raved about the atmosphere during the game and has compared it to that between Liverpool and Barcelona at Anfield in the Champions League, which ended in a 4-0 win against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Firth said on Blood Red: The Liverpool FC Podcast, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “I always thought it was a rivalry but once you are up here you can see it’s so much more than football.

“So to go to their place, we didn’t get the result we needed but it was a boss experience for me.

“The second time around we got them back to Ibrox and I’ve never seen…it was the same week as Liverpool v Barcelona and the two atmospheres were the best I’ve experienced in football. Both were absolute carnage.”

Promising talent

Firth failed to break into the Liverpool first team, but the 22-year-old goalkeeper did well when he was at Barrow and is now on the books of Rangers.

It is going to take a while for the youngster to break into the Rangers first team, but training under manager Gerrard is only going to be help him develop and progress as a footballer.
