Andy Couzens wouldn’t mind seeing the Southampton man replace Chris Wood at Leeds United.
Andy Couzens has said on Twitter that he would quite like to see Leeds United replace striker Chris Wood with Southampton marksman Charlie Austin.
The 25-year-old is poised to wrap up a £15 million move to Burnley soon, after omitting himself from the match-day squad for Saturday’s 2-0 win at Sunderland.
Replacing the New Zealand international is an unenviable task, given how he scored 30 goals in all competitions for the Whites last season, but replace him they must.
Leeds’ promotion hopes arguably hinge on how successful the Whites are in finding somebody to fill the goalscoring void which will be left by the former Leicester City man.
And former United midfielder Couzens – who has already championed a move for Liverpool forward Danny Ings, and Peter Crouch – would not say no if the Southampton hitman was plying his trade at Elland Road come September.
Austin would be a cracking signing, with the 28-year-old netting 55 Championship goals in 105 games following spells with Burnley and QPR, but it remains to be seen whether Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino would let him go.
The Saints ace, who scored a late penalty in Saturday’s 3-2 win over West Ham, is contracted to the St Mary’s club until 2020.
