Patrick Bamford was replaced at half-time as Leeds United secured all three points against Birmingham City on Saturday.
Andy Couzens has claimed that Leeds United are a ‘fitter’ team than they were last season, but he did express his worry for striker Patrick Bamford.
The former Whites player stated that the ‘biggest problem’ for Leeds is putting the ball into the back of the net, as he highlighted Bamford’s missed chances against Birmingham on Saturday.
Leeds recorded a 1-0 win against the Blues at Elland Road, with Kalvin Phillips scoring the only goal of the game, and Bamford being taken off by his manager at half-time.
After the game, Couzens was adamant that Leeds will be in and around those promotion spots in May, but he did share his thoughts on the area of concern.
“I think we are a fitter team this year than last year,” Couzens told Love Sport Radio. “I think the biggest problem we have at the minute is scoring goals.
“Patrick Bamford [against Birmingham] he does all the hard work, he is a fantastic player for us, but unfortunately just in front of goal, especially against Birmingham, he had three good chances. If we get that started, we start scoring then we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
“I think we are a better team than we were last year. I think we are a fitter team than we were last year. I think Bielsa’s also learnt.”
Eddie Nketiah was the man who replaced Bamford at half-time, and he will be very keen to earn his first league start for Leeds.
He hit a hat-trick for England’s U21’s last week and he will be hoping he has sent out a statement to his manager.
Added with that, Bamford is struggling in front of goal, and ahead of a busy schedule, starting with a trip to Preston on Tuesday, Nketiah will be hoping for that first Championship start.
