Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips was touted for a move away from the club in the summer.

Andy Couzens has expressed his delight on Twitter to reports that the ‘influential’ Kalvin Phillips is set to sign a new contract with Leeds United.
The Telegraph claims that midfielder Phillips is set to pen a long-term contract at the Championship club – the boyhood Leeds fan was an outstanding performer for the club last season, and over the course of the summer, he drew attention from Premier League clubs.
But it seems as though the 23-year-old is set to commit his future to Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who are currently sitting third in the Championship table, as they bid to earn promotion to the Premier League.
Former Leeds favourite Couzens reacted with elation to the Phillips news as he stated that he is ‘Leeds’ future captain’. Here is his message, as posted on his personal Twitter account.
The news of Phillips’ new deal will be music to the ears of the Elland Road faithful, who are well aware of how important he is to Marcelo Bielsa’s system.
There are certain players in this Leeds team that Bielsa can cope without, but someone like Phillips or even a Pablo Hernandez, if they were to ever miss any games then it would be seriously felt across the board.
Nonetheless, despite Leeds’ suffering a defeat to table-toppers Swansea City prior to the international break, there will still be optimism across Elland Road because the club has made a healthy start to the season.
After the international break, Leeds will make the short trip across Yorkshire as they take on their neighbours and newly-promoted Barnsley.
