Samuel Saiz was a key member of the Leeds United team before his departure during the 2019 January window.
Andy Couzens has torn into the ‘bad egg’ that is Samuel Saiz and claimed that Leeds don’t miss him as a ‘whole package’.
In January, the 28-year-old joined La Liga outfit Getafe [Leeds official website] leaving behind a team that was, and still is, flying high in the Championship.
As expected, there have been a few bumps in the road for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, especially when injuries have hit the team.
But speaking to Talking Shutt on their official YouTube account, Couzens made his feelings about Saiz pretty clear.
“I think he was a bad egg for the team,” Couzens told Talking Shutt. “I think he was bad for his attitude – Saiz was too big when he first came in. His body fat was too high. He wasn’t willing to work at it. His attitude when he got subbed was terrible.
“For me personally, I think it was a good move. There is talk about him potentially coming back because he’s not done it out in Spain either.
“Would he have helped us? I think when we had the little injury crisis in the middle, yes. Would he have started? No. I think he was an impact player, coming on for the last 10-15 minutes, he would have changed games. But then again Jack Clarke’s done that. For me, overall, I don’t think we’ve missed him as a whole package.”
In Saiz’s absence, youngsters such as Jack Clarke have benefited because the teenager has provided Leeds with that extra bite, especially from the bench.
Nonetheless, during his time at the Yorkshire club, Saiz provided four assists in 19 league appearances for the Whites, but he failed to find the back of the net [transfermarkt].
