Andy Wiedwald made another mistake for Leeds United.
Speaking to LUTV, Andy Couzens has criticised Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald.
Leeds beat QPR 3-1 at Loftus Road on Saturday as Kemar Roofe netted a second-half hat-trick but it was not a good day for the German stopper, who horrendously misjudged the flight of a dropping ball and somehow managed to let it bounce over his head.
That error brought the score back to 2-1, but the former Werder Bremen man, a £500,000 summer signing, pulled off a smart save shortly afterwards to make up for his mistake.
Nevertheless, former Leeds midfielder Couzens was unforgiving over the incident.
Asked on LUTV whether Wiedwald will feel down on himself, Couzens said: “He should be. God knows what’s going through his mind. He should be going in there and just picking it up. It’s not a hard thing to do. It baffled me.”
Worryingly for Wiedwald, this is his second stint as United’s first-choice keeper, having initially had it taken off him by head coach Thomas Christiansen following an unconvincing first couple of months, and it remains to be seen whether the Spaniard keeps faith or goes back to Andy Lonergan.
Either way, it’s abundantly clear that the West Yorkshire side a new goalkeeper in January. Failure to get one is taking a huge risk and few would be surprised if their goalkeeping problems wind up costing the Whites a playoff spot come May.
